Nell Ref

Nell is a thief and a heavy drinker, as well as servant to a strange little girl in white robes. She refers to her as Little Mistress and rarely sees her 'master', but does whatever task is given to her, though she has no qualms about complaining. Her wings are pretty useless, only giving her a small boost and unable to support her weight for more than a few seconds. She prefers to dress in ballerina-style clothing with poofy shoulders and arm-length gloves. Her attitude is on the sour side and she'll often get into fights, but when left alone she's pretty harmless. Nell travels often, frequenting bars and pubs until they kick her out.

The nature of the missions the Little Mistress gives her range from spy work to stealing certain objects to assassinations. Nell dislikes killing people, mostly because it's a hassle to find them and can be very time-consuming, but also because the more she has to learn about someone the harder it can be to finish them off. At the very least she plays it smart and waits until the target is alone and vulnerable, whether by choice or her luring them away from prying eyes. It isn't often she's told to kill someone.

Unknown Bio: Nell was not her original name, but whatever it was is long forgotten. She used to be a young woman in a cliff-side fishing village by the sea. She had long hair and often was seen in an apron, having taken up the housework after her mother died. Her father was a fisherman and her brother was too young yet to do much beyond helping set the table and make his bed. Though her father pressed her to find a husband, she wanted to wait until her brother was old enough to take care of the house himself. Regardless, she was content with her life, and very happy.

Everything changed in one night. A celebration was being held in the town square, the large bonfire leaving the villagers blind to attackers in the dark. They were assaulted by a large, heavily armed group who were wielding strange weapons. Amidst the chaos Nell found a weapon dropped by the bandits. However, when she picked it up to fight off the attackers, she could not let go. It possessed her, yet left her fully aware of what was going on as she turned on her fellow villagers. She decimated them, but through her tears she managed to hold back when swinging at her brother long enough for him to run. Unfortunately the attackers set the village on fire, with her in it. She woke up the next morning down on the beach, clothes burnt, covered in soot, weaponless, and looking like a demon. The village was just a black pillar of smoke on the cliff.

She was approached by a young girl in nothing but a white robe who offered to erase her memories, give her a new name, and keep her under control in return for her servitude. The thought of what she'd done was too painful, and she couldn't bear it if it happened again, so she agreed. Unbeknownst to Nell, her brother is still alive and looking for her. Everything mentioned that triggers her suppressed memories were characteristics of her village and home.

Note: Nell's background is set around the Industrious Revolution in Europe (16th-18th century), but her 'Master' can send her to different time periods to complete tasks. Thus, when encountering more modern technology, she is only partially shocked, and eventually gets over it. Also, her overall appearance has remained the same since she became a demon, though she did cut her hair, since it reminded her of her past life.
